Born in 1916, Beverly Cleary is one of America's most successful children's and young adult authors. Her most famous books follow Ramona and Beatrice Quimby, Henry Huggins and his dog Risby, and Ralph S. Mouse. She captures what it is like to be kid in her books and help to see just how kid's think. 

Shel Silverstein

Shel Silverstein was born in 1930. He studied music and wrote several famous songs like 'A Boy Named Sue'. Some of his famous writings are The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and A Light in the Attic.
